Master Class Participation Rules
• Teachers are usually chosen by a random drawing at the September meeting for the opportunity to enter students in Master Class.
• Names are drawn from among teachers in attendance at the September meeting. If a teacher has a professional conflict at the time of the September meeting, he/she may submit a request in writing for proxy representation at the September Board Meeting. In the case of a last minute emergency only, contact both the Master Class Chair AND the Branch President.
• As the names of eligible teachers are drawn, members choose a category of “Performer” or “Alternate” until all positions in the four categories are filled in each instrument. Note to Piano Teachers: teachers with students in the Piano Master Class are ineligible for a “performer draw” two years in a row.
• It is the responsibility of teachers selecting “Free Choice” to determine that no duplicate compositions are to be performed.
• Applications and repertoire are reviewed by the Master Class chair. If the application or material chosen is not acceptable for any reason, the application is forfeited and the alternate notified the same day. Pop music or arrangements cannot be used for Master Class.
• Student must provide 2 original copies of the music and his/her own accompanist, if applicable. Piano and string students must perform from memory.
• Mail the application and Participant and Teacher Fees to the appropriate Master Class Chair by December 1.
