LOOKING FOR CONCERTO SOLOISTS FOR 2026!
We have another great opportunity offered by the La Mirada Symphony for students from our branch. Two student soloists will be selected to perform a movement of a concerto on Sunday, May 17, a regular La Mirada Symphony concert during the 2025-2026 season. The concert will be at the beautiful 1200-seat La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. It is an exciting opportunity for our young musicians to play with a live orchestra.
All instrumental students are encouraged to enter if they have a concerto movement memorized and ready for performance. Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 22 beginning at 1:00 PM at the Tchaikovsky School of Music in Walnut. Because we want to encourage all ages to enter, two age Divisions are offered: Division I (12 and under) and Division 2 (13 and over). Two students will be selected, one from each division, at the discretion of the judges. See the link to the application form below. After the audition, rehearsals will start the following month, set for Tuesday evenings (TBA) at the La Mirada Activity Center, and May 12 (dress rehearsal) at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
IMPORTANT: Please select the repertoire chosen for audition carefully. The La Mirada Symphony uses the Los Angeles Public Library https://www.lapl.org/collections-resources/research-guides/sheet-music-locator and the Petrucci Music Library (IMSLP) https://imslp.org/ as sources for score and parts rental. Teachers, please check to see if the repertoire you choose for your student is available at one of these low-cost sources. If it is not, the scores may have to be rented from New York which can cost $300 and up. Unfortunately, this fee must be absorbed by the student. You will find most concerti from the standard repertoire at one of these library sources, but it would be prudent to check the availability of your score before the application for audition.
