Participation Rules

1. This year's concerto repertoire is open to all instrumentalists from all different periods.
2. Repertoire is limited to one movement of a concerto, or portions of a similar work, not exceeding 15 minutes total. Exceptions: 2 movements may be allowed if the designation attacca appears in print between movements AND the total timing is less than 15 minutes. One entire movement will be guaranteed; the full use of 15 minutes will not be guaranteed.
3. Every student application must include the full title of the concerto movement to be performed, the key, the work number (i.e., opus 77, K. 488), the movement tempo indication (Allegro assai, Largo, etc.), the composer’s full name and the EXACT playing time. The application will not be considered without all required information.
4. No one over 18 years of age may apply unless they are currently enrolled in high school.
5. A student must have studied with the applying teacher six months continuously prior to the application.
6. It is the teacher’s responsibility to be sure that students and their families fully understand all rules and obligations. Whittier Branch Dress Code applies.
7. Teachers of participating students are not to accompany, turn pages, or in any other way make it known to the judges their connection to one or more of the contestants.
9. Withdrawals after the audition date: if a winner withdraws — he/she will be replaced by one of the alternates chosen in the event a winner is unable to perform at the Winners' Concert.
